The Hungry Deserter

You can find this poor bastard around the Infirmary, locked in a hanging cage. He will ask you for some food.

You can try persuading the guard to share his food portion with the prisoner. If it doesn’t work you will have to find another solution.

A simple one will be to kill the thief. You will obtain a key to one of the chests in the camp. You will have to wait until it’s dark to open it though. Come back to open the chest once you complete the Grey Wardens’ cache quest.

If you give the food and don’t take the option for the key reward, you get +2 approval from Alistair.

  2. John says:

If you give the prisoner the food without asking him questions you also get +100 exp points in addition to +2 Approval instead of +1 approval from Allistar. Not sure if you would get these anyway if you eventually open the chest.

I did not know about the additional influence for not questioning. Is this a common occurrence throughout the game? I always default to asking as many things as I can.

i just get to him and killed him and took the key….and btw who cares about Approval from alistair, (allready completed the game), just gonne try to get all side quests done this time…besides u can give alistair gifts and get Approval.

whats in the chest by the way

  6. Wolfsbane says:

Don’t kill him. He is Sten. A VERY VERY powerful warrior. Convince the guard to give him food. (If you are a Rogue, you can persuade him to do it)…and Sten is more powerful than Alistair. Add him to your party.

I keep getting killed way before I can kill the ogre in the Ostager tower. Do I need to stock up on healing and just keep fighting? Whats the deal?

  8. ATsernov says:

@Wolfsbane, Wrong prisoner. You are thinking of “The Qunari Prisoner” quest which is in Lothering.

The quest in question happens in Ostagar, BEFORE you drink the Darkspawn blood and become a Warden. “The Hungry Deserter” is human and is NOT Sten.

  9. Bronson says:

Inside the chest is just a few magical items I think its worth getting them but ive tried to stay as good as possible does this affect end.Do I just need the connection cable to get downloadable items.

  10. TeeJay says:

@Bronson A lot of questions, but no being “good” doesnt affect the end in these sidequests except if it has something to do with the ending, which this quest does not. You just need to have connection to the internet, which means the cable plus something to connect it to. I guess you got that tho.

Questions, do the xp you gain from quests show up for you? How do you know how much you get/if you get any from quests? I dunno, didnt think I did actually
