The Attack at Nightfall

I have to warn you that if you do not have enough healing potions this quest might be a real pain!

You start at the top of the hill along with a group of other warriors. After defeating the first wave of undead enemies one of the soldiers is directing you down the hill – in front of the Chantry. The militia are fighting the undead but they seem not to stand a chance.

Kill as many enemies as possible while the militia is still fighting. Pause – give orders – pause – move your party members away from the whole mess. When all of the militia fighters fall you have to change strategy. Select all party members (PC default: CTRL+A) and run up the hill. The undead will follow you. Once they are all dead (again) run down the hill, gather another horde and so on.. until the waves stop. It seems to be some sort of survival mode.

If the cutscene doesn’t appear check every corner of the location for lost and lonely zombies. Once you finish them all the madness should end.

It was the worst mission of the game (so far).

Was not such a pain for me … I’m a mage with one heal spell.
With a bunch of mana/heal potions, I manage to keep alive 3/4 milice guys.

  2. admin says:

It really depends on your character’s class and the level of your character when you approach the quest. Many people complained about this one because you don’t really know when it will end.

  3. Lennie says:

I got a tip, firstly, donĀ“t go to this part of the map to early because it is much eaiser when u have grown a little with ur hero. Secondly, if u having a hard time dealing with this mission, take all your heroes after u have completing the first part and run upp the hill with the green smook, turn left and place ur company by the house were u first came from when u arrived at red (what ever the name is…=). Take the best hero u got then, run back, and make the enemies follow u (maximum of 4-5) thru the fire by the green smoke. If u are careful u can pass it ureself without getting burned, but the enemies will… it takes time but it will work!!! ;)

  4. KLilbm says:

I have killed all enemies that you face, when you go down to fight the ones comming from the sea. But still the cutscene isn’t coming?
I go back up where i started, and 1-2 skeletons appears every 20 second. They just keep appearing, nothing stops the mission. Is it a glitch?

  5. Raven says:

Check the area down by the river again. There might be a lost skeleton standing smowhere.

  6. Shaman says:

Hint: If you convince Lloyd the tavern owner to help out the militia and he manages to survive, he gives you “Lloyd’s Magic Ring” +2 str, -1 cunning.
I was ~lv. 8 when I did Redcliffe (I play on hard, but when I tried normal they started dying even faster – I guess NPCs have less hp on easier modes?) and it was hell trying to save named Militia guys with Morrigan, the dog and Alister.
Only Lloyd rewarded me… mayor Murdock, dwarf Dwyn, elf/spy Berwick and militia-man Thomas give nothing. I say kill Dwyn instead of recruit him because he’s got a unique weapon on him.

  7. Jan says:

What sucks is that, for all the difficulty in getting Dwyn out there, he’s up there with the knights’ easier portion. In front of the church, with one mage healer in my group, I found it very helpful to keep healing members of the militia and not just your own crew. They take a lot of heat off of your team, allowing them to kick even more tail.

  8. wind4life says:

If all the townspeople survive the attack (Militia, Murdock, Thomas, Knights and anyone else who you recruited to fight), you will receive a unique helmet at the end.

The helmet isn’t really worth the trouble it is to get it. But just letting you guys know.

And for Lloyd… you could recruit him to fight in the militia, or you could intimidate him into giving you the tavern (which nets you around 120 silver, and everything in his stock for free).

  9. Fred says:

IF you go to the General store and mouse over the barrels of oil along the wall before you speak to sir Perth than you will have the conversation option to tell him about the oil. He will than use it to set the barricades on fire helping you defeat the incoming horde.

  11. nihebs says:

i cant do it. theres nothing back but i cant win. i lokked everywere

  12. christian says:

I have searched the entire map and killed all the zombies yet not cutscene!!???
    there must be a glitch
I can hear a zombie yelling in certain parts but their is no visual

  13. George says:

Mine glitches where the militia were invincible then the cutscene never happened.

  14. michelle says:

had same problem and searched everywhere, finally at bottom, near docks 1 darkspawn remained – have to go through building over walkway to find it – hope that helps

  15. everett says:

This was extremely easy, i was only lvl 8 and completely destroyed this quest, 4/4 of them were still alive. was actually really fun, on hard mode as well.

  16. ongnei says:

normally there will be a zombie remain at the river, try walking around the river to see. morrigan will be best here as the zombie are very vulnerable to spell.. however do protect her as the zombie often gang up on the range hero.

  17. dude seriously says:

this quest was too easy, i beat it at lvl 7, 4/4 alive

  18. saz says:

I have been stuck here unable to find the “last” zombie by the water. I have been through every inch of this map over and over again, literally. I walk, stop, and look around. Walk, stop and look around. I have taken breaks for a couple of weeks, come back, thinking a fresh set of eyes will find it…no avail. The missing zombie does not exist. There is a glitch. I would have thought that something would cause my players to defend or attack if I got close to it but no. Everybody says go to the water or dock and I have done that at least 12 times. I have re-loaded the game more than a dozen times. I have done everything that everyone suggests and still no missing zombie. I don’t want to start over but I think I might have to. There is definitely a glitch here.

  19. player says:

i dont get it its reallly not that hard a bit glitchy cas some of the zombies u have to go huntin for but just stay near the barricades and kill em all i did at lvl 7 all of my gys no tactics (cant figure out how to work em) and just killed everythin. i have no healin spells the people i worked with was moorigan allistar and my dog

  20. Honjura says:

piece of advice, do Orzzamar, then the dalish elves, go to Denerium and then go to the magi circle then got o redliffe, its easy as then

  21. Helmuth says:

Its not really that tough- I didn’t have any trouble with this really(obviously didn’t worry about saving ppl except Lloyd- the ring).

To make things easier for yourself:
    - Visit around Level 8+ and have at least a healer in your party(duh…)
    - Might not seem important, but the reason why ppl notice its maybe harder or easier the 2nd/3rd time around is because of the HELP. If you convince Dwyn to help, the militia gets a morale boost(Murdock will mention he’s got a ‘good feeling about 2night’ after you’ve convinced Dwyn), same with Lloyd(morale-boost), same with the spy. A few able bodies is a boost anyway.
    - Try and get the amulets for Perth as it will boost morale
    - Mention the oil to Perth and his lackeys
    - Use eathquake and AOE spells and spellcombos(if you can)
    - Use all your abilities
    - Make good use of aggro abilities
    - Mob enemies

That should leave you with round about 12-14 militia(incl. the ones from the 1st wave)

  22. wurtnik says:

I took Alistair’s advice and went to Redcliff 1st. I was only lvl 8 and had Dog, Alistair and Morrigan in my party. I recruited Dwyn, Lloyd and berick, mentioned the oil, got the fake blessing and peed on the tree by the windmill

I had no trouble keeping my party alive but lloyd died.

    I play on normal

  23. Neal says:

    Hint
If you are facing difficulty completing this mission. The first part is where you have knights alongside you. This is not difficult as enemies come one or two at a time.
In the second part you have to fight along with the militia . This is the difficult part.
Once all the militia are dead, you can set up an ambush by keeping 3 party members near the windmill and send one(a strong one) to go and seek the attention of the enemies.Let them follow you(they will come 2 or 3 at a time) as you run back to the windmill where your other party members and knights await. do this again until all are dead
