The way I read to do it(and the way I did it) is to pass a dexterity check while you’re playing the card game with her. I’m not sure what your Dex should be at, but I know 25 was high enough.
Obviously, you have to be a mage.
Speak to Morrigan in the camp, and ask her how she became a shapeshifter. You can later ask her if anyone can become one. She will then unlock the shapeshifter spec.
Same as above, you have to be a mage.
You pick up a philactery in the lower ruins in the Brecilian forest. Put it on the altar, and release the spirit inside it. Done.
Specializations easy to gain with companions :
Spirit Healer: Wynne
Shapeshifter: Morrigan
Templar: Allister
Bard: Lielana
Assassin: Zevran
Other : blood mage.
Find the blood mage specialization in Redcliffe Castle.
When you have the choice, let Jowan out of prison when you meet him in the dungeon. After you go through the rest of the castle and fight in the main hall, you meet Jowan again. He
proposes to use blood magic to get another mage into the fayde. Your character must be the one to go into the Fade. You will meet the demon a few times before the final face-off. You’ll
know because the demon will ask more involved questions. Encourage the conversation by saying you will listen to the proposal. The proposal will be that the demon will leave as if defeated for a long time and then years from now will come back to reclaim the boy. In return the demon will reward you. If
you choose knowledge, you unlock the Blood Mage specialization. IF you are playing a good character, it is not exactly the best thing to do. Try saving before going through the dialogue. Once you have unlocked the blood mage spec, reload the previous save. With a bit of luck, you have the spec available to you, AND you can still play the good one :p
Note on Blood Mage specialization: you can actually unlock the spec and still play as a “good” character, albeit not a fanatical one. If your coercion and strength is high enough, you can try to intimidate the Desire Demon into leaving Connor alone forever, so as not to get killed. After that, you can try to pass another intimidate check to receive one of the gifts you would have chosen, had you agreed to the demon’s proposal (including the Blood Mage one). This way, the player can get the best of both worlds: the Blood Mage spec is unlocked (or something else), and the Demon is gone from Connor forever.
You can buy shapeshifter from the blacksmith in the Dalish camp and arcane warrior is located in the kiocari ruins ( there’s a small glass bottle in on of the rooms before you face the werewolves containing a spirit that offers you knowledge In return for releasing him), and I got the duelist from coercing the chick into having sex with me,
To get the Reaver specialization do the Andrastes Ashes mission, completing it by dropping the dragon’s blood (obtained from Kolgrim in the caves just before mountaintop – be nice) into the Ashes and then drinking the blood thant’s left over (you can then kill Kolgrim and the High Dragon if you want to, but what’s the point).
To start this quest, contrary to popular belief, you do not need to get to the healing Arl Eamon stage of the Redcliffe quest. While in Lothering go to the Chantry and speak to Ser Bfsdhkfsjefg (*can’t remember the name) who tells you about the quest for the Ashes and the Albs illness (not sure if you need to do this but you pass through there anyway…). Then, go to Denerim and Brother Genetivi’s house (near the Tavern) to speak to Weylon. Try to open the back door of the house, kill Weylon then get everything from that back room – this opens up the village of Haven. Easy going from there.
Assasin- Zevran (party character) will teach you if his opinion of you is high enough.
Bard- Lelianna (party character) will like wise teach you this, although you do need to get her to confess to her previous occupation first.
Duelist- Isabella in the Pearl (Denerim), requires and element of persuation, skill in theiving, slight of hand, or if none of these skills are up your alley, simply bring Zevran or Lelianna along to help you out.
Ranger- Purchase the book from the (dwarven traders) in you camp.
Mage
Arcane Warrior- The under ground ruins in the Breccilian forest (e.g. the Elf chain). You will find a Phylactery (note the starting text, while similar to the Black vials line, is different) promise the spirit within release and he will teach you the specialisation.
Blood Mage- Follow the Redcliff quest line until you enter the fade to free the boy. Barter with the demon and make it/ask it to grant you knowledge. Depending on your skills/the options you choose, this may or may not require you to allow the demon to return to reclaim the boy at a later date.
Shapeshifter- Learnt from Morigan, only a small opinion increase is neccesary, play your cards right and you can unlock this during the first camp scene.
Spirit Healer- I learnt this half way through the game from a book, despite playing a mage and getting Wynes opinion of me to max. This implies that if she can teach you, you must pick a specific conversation option during a one off topic.
Warrior
Beserker- Learnt from Ograhn after you recruit him in and complete “A pargon of her time”, only requires a small opinion increase.
Champion- Learnt most easily by completing the Redcliff line, personally I had saved the son and the wife, so I can not confirm whether or not this is a neccesity, or just complete the line in any fashion. Also reports of this being learnt in Oggramar.
Reaver- Near the end of the Ashes (Redcliff) questline you will be given the opportunity to align yourself with a crazy dragon worshipping cult. Complete their quest and they will teach you the specialisation.
Templar- Just butter up Alistair and he will teach you. Trying to push the issue before he reaches the prerequisit opinion will result in loss of opinion everytime you ask him.
I apologise for the missing information (and spelling), information available on this topic on the web is a little sketchy, as each player can only unlocks each once, and you can not reload the save games to double check the specfics. This means that most people constructing faq on this topic do so with incomplete information.
The Templar spec. you get from Allistar once you have high enough approval with him (you have to make morally good descisions, such as saving the Mages in the Circle and then getting them to perform the ritual to save Connor in Redcliffe) I got his approval about 3/4 the way up and then he taught me…but I also belive there is a manual in the Wonders of Thedas shop in Denerim (might be random, because I also had seen a Ranger training manual there in one playthrough)
You can also bring Zevran along for a threesome on her boat. Gives a nice +rep boost with Zev.
And don’t bring Morrigan with you if you want to bed Isabela, otherwise she will cockblock you if you’re in a relationship with her. She gets jealous easily.
Its a stupid question,so sorry in advance.I know that Zevran needs to have you in good regard to teach u to be an asassin, but im already 13 th lvl and he is “still thinking about it”.I don’t take him with me on quests cause its a pain to keep him alive, but when we are in camp i don’t get the chance to better his attitude towards me.Any help would me appreciated thanks
If you play it smart you can get Reaver and still get Champion from Arl Eamon. 2 Specialists back to back. I managed it.
@Dionis
Thru the game you will aquire gift items some are blatantly obvious who they’re for. For Zevran anything Dalish or Antivan. He will practically hump your leg for the Antivan boots I got on some quest line. I think Stone Prisoner. It gave a +12. Dalish elf gifts also a good idea to give to him. Hope that helps.
Im a rogue class and i want to get blood magic for my mage’s but morrigan just wants to fight the demon and no conversation what so ever i… even tried wynne lol still no luck is there something i need to get morrigan like more cunning or what ??? like me more ?? donno i need to some help with this thank you
The way 2 get Blood Mage is when U enter the fade at Redcliffe U… Acctually Does anyone know if you can get the specialization without being a mage and personally entering the fade??? Do U have 2 get Wynne or Morrigan to do it?
I have a mage, and I REALLY wanna be a shapeshifter! Like really badly! But….Morrigan is being a bitch (oh what a surprise) and she wont teach me. I have like +57 with her! And she’s still not wanting to teach me. How much does she have to like me to teach to be a shapeshifter?
laura- i was about a little over half way before a conversation in camp popped up that started off by inquiring if she can teach others SS abilities. she asks you then ‘why and are you interested in learning?’ you can respond positively or indifferently. if you respond positively that you are truly considering it, she will then say that she will teach you anything she can every time they break camp provided you have the will and focus to learn it. hope this was helpful. oh and she likes any jewelry that is more pagan oriented and or just dark and demonic, she loves books and if you choose to be a bit selfish and very one mind-setted in saving the world form the blight in responses to certain NPC’s quests she will respect you more. you dont have to be down right evil, she just doesnt BS and if you take every quest that is out there without being a bit greedy in rewards etc. she will get irritated every time. hope this helped you out a bit
for those who wanna be an assassin but dont want to lick Zevran balls, can buy the specialization book at the shop at Denerim’s Alienage.
Btw,i would like to make a question,i wanna make the Superior Drake Skin Armor but cant find drake scales…where can i find some?i already killed those at the Cultist’s Cave(The urn of sacred ashes quest) and crafted them at Denerim(wades emporium)but he made an armor worthy for a rat or somethin.any store sellin them? or any drake nest?
To Primo Carnera .
there’s a guaranteed 3 drake scales in the Circle Tower
1 from the drake you face right after the Sloth Demon, and 2 more in a locked chest that’s in a room with many drakelings. It’s enough for another set of armor, but there are more out there still you just have to find them. Hope that helps.
A second way to get this specialisation is in the Soldiers Pass DLC. You meet an old Grey Warden mage, who was delving in blood magic during the fight with the Kings armies. If you are understanding to his human experimentation, he will teach you blood magic.
to get any part member to like you is easy just buy gifts along the way, and when in the part kamp give them to the person you want to like you
there are a few gifts that real do the trick:
in sevrams case the are the antivian boots and the dalish gloves
for morrigan it the mirror she tells you about the one her mother destroyed as a kid (one of the dwarves in ozzamar has a similar one)
o and of course her mother grimmoure (also needed for a quest)
for allistair its a locket that belonged to his mom (found in the reclife castle)
as for sten the qunary there is a quest for his sword find it and he’ll be a great freind
i have played through the game more than once already, though it has been months. Can anyone tell me how many specialization points u can get? I remember with my first rogue dalish my choice was duelist.. i am aiming for ranger this time but its not unlocked and duelist was. I was just wondering if i could choose both?? I guess it would just be wise to not choose until i am sure of what i want to do…

Berserker
Manual from Gorim in Denerim Market Place, he’s the dwarven merchant
There is also a Ranger class you can establish . Not sure how I got it but I think it had something to do with the Elven Territories
Ranger = Camp with the dwarvens traders
Another note about Duelist, if your persuasion is high enough, you can bed Isabela and gain Duelist without going through the card game.
I was wondering how do i train in a specialization after i unlock it?
To get the Reaver specialization do the Andrastes Ashes mission, completing it by dropping the dragon’s blood (obtained from Kolgrim in the caves just before mountaintop – be nice) into the Ashes and then drinking the blood thant’s left over (you can then kill Kolgrim and the High Dragon if you want to, but what’s the point).

Anyone know how to become a champion, warrior class?
you gain the champian status after defeating the Proving in Orzammar. Its set up as a quest there, so after you get it, its prety straight forward.
Thanx Nick much appreciated!!
I think you also get the Champion class after healing Arl Eamon if you accept his gift offer.
you can get the bard specialization down in Dust Town from the only shop down there (can’t remember the guy’s name)
Rogue
Assasin- Zevran (party character) will teach you if his opinion of you is high enough.

I finished the provings but didn’t get the champion specialization. Is there anything I still have to do or people to see?
